About Us
With a small campus of 600 students, S.C. Red Elementary is a treasure hidden in the heart of the Willowbend neighborhood in southwest Houston. We are a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Magnet school with a Vanguard Neighborhood program. Every student at our school takes part in our magnet program. That means every student attends extra math, science and technology labs each week. Engineering is incorporated into our subjects.
Our students thrive in our environment with large and creative classrooms, a diverse population and experienced teachers. In fact, the majority of our teachers have more than 11 years of experience. In addition to our Magnet programs, Red offers a wide variety of academic programs including Accelerated Reader, Renzulli Learning Systems, art, music, physical education, outdoor classrooms, library, computer labs and special education.
Our students also take part in many extracurricular activities including choir, guitar, math, Name That Book club, Odyssey of Mind, piano, robotics, science fair, spelling bee, student council and Spanish.
Red Elementary opened its doors in 1957. Major renovations and remodeling were done to the school both in 1990 and 2004. The only classrooms in temporary buildings are PE and Music. In 2008, our campus became wireless.
Our school hours are 8am to 3pm. Red P.T.O. provides a tuition-based After School program from 3pm to 6pm.
